The first article was kind of a hit, so no we’re back to bring you another part to the low-cal snack series. This time, we’re all about the sweet stuff.
Disclaimer: You won’t see much protein in this lineup. These are just meant to help you satisfy your sweet tooth while staying on track with your calorie goals.
Let’s go.
1. WONDER BAR (108 - 124 cal)
Low calorie and still chocolate? No wonder they’re called ‘Wonder Bars’.
The best thing about Wonder Bars is that they’re portion controlled. You can eat the whole 23g bar and have it mentally checked that your choccy is finished - way better at helping you control your portions compared to slabs.
Wonder Bars come in 3 flavours, with the highest calorie one being the ‘peanut’ flavour. Check out the table for a full breakdown.
| Flavour | Calories |
|---|---|
| Milk (Plain Chocolate) | 119 cals |
| Mint | 108 cal |
| Nut | 124 cals |
A full solid piece of chocolate for 100 - 124 calories is a great way to indulge while staying calorie-conscious.
2. CHOMP (60 - 97 cal)
If you want to go even lower calorie than a Wonder Bar, the CHOMP is the way to go.
You may have been called a “chomp” a few times in your life, but I won’t call you a chomp for saving calories by eating one of these.
Wafers, caramel, covered in chocolate? Sounds good to me.
This childhood classic will only set you back 60 calories for the smaller 12g bar, but for the larger 23g serving, you can expect to put away 97 calories.
One of the lowest calorie, REAL chocolate bars you’ll find.
3. Lovely Lollies (25 cal)

Here’s something sweet for you to suck on: it’s a ‘Lovely Lolly’.
A hard candy on a stick is something I crave every now and then, and I usually go for a lovely lollie.
A pack of 6 is only R15 and each one is only 25 calories. That’s huge calorie savings for a sweet.
For reference, a Fizz Pop will set you back around 70 calories.
4. OLA PADDLE POPS
A delicious and refreshing treat for a hot day.
Instead of a Magnum, Cornetto or King Cone (which would all set you back around 200+ calories) opt for one of these guys to keep your refreshing snack to under 100 calories.
Paddle Pops come in a variety of shapes and flavours, but no matter which one you pick, you’re still safe.
| Paddle Pop Flavour | Calories |
|---|---|
| Tubes (Raspberry & Pineapple) | 61 cal |
| Orange / Mango | 36 cal |
| Chocolate | 69 cal |
| Rainbow / Blueberry | 63 cal |
| Tornado | 78 cal |

Wafer Whizz
If you’re not feeling particularly fruity and want something similar to a soft-serve vanilla cone, go for a Wafer Whizz.
Creamy, sweet vanilla ice-cream sandwiched between two wafer biscuits - the South African ‘ice-cream sandwich’

Staying in shape doesn’t mean you need to cut out the fun stuff.
